What to Expect: IOP Care Plan Treatments & Evaluations

We offer many different evaluations and diagnostic tools to assess and treat patients with TBI. Veterans may or may not experience all the treatments and evaluations listed here.

Animal-Assisted Therapy*
Service dogs trained by U.S. Veterans Service Dogs may be used in a patient’s recovery from a TBI and psychological health conditions.

Art Therapy*
Art, music, writing, dance and other creative expression facilitated by Whole Village Art may be incorporated into a patient’s treatment to help improve their quality of life.

Audiology/Vestibular Services
These tests address hearing and balance problems connected to a patient’s TBI.

Behavioral Health
Social workers, clinical psychologists and integrative psychiatrists are available to address mental health needs, addiction and marriage/family counseling.

Case Management (CM)
Case managers coordinate care with providers and help patients navigate their journey from evaluation to treatment, but their work doesn’t stop with the IOP. Through routine follow-ups and outreach, case managers continue working with patients to help ensure new skills and tools learned in the IOP carry over into the patient’s day-to-day life.

Cooking/Nutrition/Dietary Counseling*
Through the Goldring Center for Culinary Medicine, we offer hands-on nutrition classes to evaluate nutrition goals and teach healthy, economical cooking skills.

Individual, Family & Group Counseling/Education
These sessions can help patients and family members improve communication and coping skills and teach problem-solving/conflict-resolution techniques.

Integrative Health
This treatment teaches patients mind-body skills and offers treatments such as acupuncture, nutritional medicine, yoga, meditation, relaxation and tai chi

Mind-Body Medicine
A patient’s mind-body treatment may include a range of therapeutic practices (think: meditation, breathing techniques, yoga and more) proven to help people suffering from mTBI and psychological health issues.

Music Therapy*
This treatment, developed through the Loyola University Music Therapy program, addresses sleep issues and triggering sounds/situations and provides opportunities for self-expression and relaxation through music.

Physical Therapy
Individualized sessions may address pain, balance and vision problems, and safe ways to incorporate movement into a patient’s daily life.

Speech/Language Therapy
This treatment focuses on restoring or compensating for reduced cognitive abilities (thinking, reasoning, remembering) related to a TBI.

Veterans Relations
This consultation with our Veteran team connects patients with extensive resources and support available in their community.

Yoga Therapy* (LoveYourBrain Foundation)
Through our partnership with LoveYourBrain Foundation, our yoga instructor teaches breathwork, mindful movement, meditation and other practices designed to help patients become stronger, more stable and more aware in their wellness journey.
