Tulane Center for Brain Health starts program to help vets

The Tulane University Center for Brain Health has a new program to address the unique medical needs of veterans. The center’s medical director, Doctor Gregory Stewart, says the program can help vets who suffer from PTSD, depression, anxiety, and other psychological issues associated with serving in the military.

“Our program is up and running,” said Stewart. “This would be a referral in to make sure our program can benefit the individual and then we would bring them in for a three-day evaluation.”

Individuals seeking more information are asked to contact the center’s clinical navigator, Jeremy Brewer, at area code 504-941-0644.

Stewart says vets seeking treatment will undergo a three-day diagnostic evaluation that will result in the patient receiving a treatment plan.

“If the three-day evaluation is successful and it looks like they would benefit from additional treatment then we would bring them back for a three-week intensive outpatient program,” said Stewart.

Stewart is overseeing a staff of over 30 doctors, specialists, and experts. He says this is a program a veteran should take advantage of, especially if they are having trouble receiving care from the Veteran’s Health Administration.

“And we understand this requires a comprehensive approach for the care of our veterans in order to bring out the best in them and help them through all of this,” said Stewart.

Brewer says because of generous donations, these services will not cost the veteran anything beyond their time and a commitment to healing.
